Frequently asked questions

Tickets

– Select the from / to stations and date in the journey planner and click on „Go“; 

– Select the departure;

– Select the ticket category (standard, discounted standard or First Class) and the number of tickets; 

– If travelling in First Class click on “Select seat”;

– Click on „Buy“;

– A new page will open where you choose how you would like to receive the ticket. You can have it sent either to your Elron farecard or to an email address.  Confirm your selection by clicking on “Add to cart”;

– Select your payment method (bank, credit card or Elron farecard), review the terms and conditions of use and continue to payment. You need an Elron account  if you wish to pay with your farecard credit. Click on “Return to vendor” when your transaction has been approved;

– The ticket will be delivered as requested - to your e-mail address or your farecard. If you wish you can get a confirmation e-mail of the ticket that was loaded to your farecard.

You need an Elron farecard where the ticket will be loaded. 

  • Click on „Season Ticket“ under the journey planner;
  • Select the ticket duration (1 day, 30 days, 90 days or your own custom range)
  • Select the zone(s) or the stations
  • Select the start date and the ticket type (season ticket or discounted season ticket)
  • Check the ticket information and enter the number of the Elron farecard where you wish the ticket to be loaded;
  • Select your payment method (bank, credit card or Elron farecard), review the terms and conditions of use and continue to payment. You need an Elron account if you wish to pay with your farecard credit. Click on “Return to merchant” when your transaction has been approved;
  • Enter your email address if you wish to sign up for season ticket reminders; 
  • The ticket that you bought will be loaded to your farecard. You can see your active tickets and transaction history when you log in with your Elron farecard here
  • Tap the farecard on the reader.
  • Choose the end station, or the zone of your end station when travelling in the zoned area near Tallinn. 
  • Choose your ticket.  If you want to use the discount for registered residents with the Public Transportation Smartcard (Ühiskaart), press „Select“ next to “Ühiskaart discounted ticket” and tap your Smartcard. If you want to buy a regular ticket without the Public Transportation Smartcard, choose „Single ticket“ or „Discounted single ticket“.
  • The ticket machine will display the price.
  • Tap the farecard on the reader to confirm the transaction.
  • You can only buy single tickets in standard class.

A first class ticket comes with a numbered and guaranteed seat.  Seats in standard class are not numbered and a standard class ticket does not guarantee a seat.

On-board staff have the right to check every passenger`s ticket even if the ticket has already been validated in the ticket machine.

You get the best deals online, with 15% off single tickets and 10% off season tickets, compared to buying them from on-board staff or from ticket offices. Single tickets bought with the Elron Farecard from the ticket machine on train get a 10% discount.

One preschool child can travel free with a paying adult but without a reserved seat. If you want to guarantee your child a seat or you are travelling with more than one child you will need to buy them a full fare first class ticket.

On-board staff and ticketmachine accept payments with VISA / VISA Electron, MasterCard / Maestro and American Express.

On-board staff accepts cash payments.  

 

If you have Interrail 1st class pass then you should send us the e-mail about week before you wish to travel – send us the exact date, time and route.  Also add Interrail 1st class pass copy or picture.

Send we`ll send you the ticket(s) via e-mail.

If you have Interrail regular class pass then you just choose your journey and go to train. Show your Interrail pass to onboard staff and that is all.

On the train

Please validate your ticket in the ticket machine on the train as you board. The ticket machines are at every door of the train. If the ticket machine is out of order you can have it validated by on-board staff.

On-board staff have the right to check every passenger`s ticket even if the ticket has already been validated in the ticket machine.

You must carry an ID confirming your eligibility for these discounts: 

  • the local government discount with a personalised Public Transportation Smartcard (Ühiskaart);
  • the discount for people aged up to and including 19;
  • the discount for people with partial or no work ability;
  • the discount for people aged 65 years and older.

Free Wi-Fi is available on all our trains. First class has a separate, faster Wi-Fi.

We are not offering any food or drink on-board but you’re welcome to bring snacks and beverages (except alcohol) with you. 

All carriages are fitted with air conditioning controlled automatically through an internal device, which is set to keep the temperature between 18-25 degrees Celsius depending on the outside temperature. At certain intervals the system blows cool air into the carriage through its AC vents. The train driver can regulate the temperature by up to two degrees Celsius. Please contact our on-board staff if the temperature feels uncomfortable.  

The passenger is allowed to carry on the train luggage the sum of the three dimensions (length, width, height) of which does not exceed 200 cm and the weight of which does not exceed 40 kg (excluding bicycles and skis).

If possible, luggage should be placed on the luggage rack.
There are no extra luggage room on the 1st class. 

All our trains are wheelchair accessible. Please board section C which has both regular seats and special spaces with safety belts for wheelchairs. The lavatory in section C is wheelchair accessible. 

It’s best to plan ahead if you want to travel with a wheelchair, so please write to us at [email protected] at least 3 working days before your journey and tell us your travel plans.

Replacement buses used during engineering works and travel disruptions are accessible to customers who are able to board the bus on their own. Wheelchairs have to be folded down to fit into luggage compartments. If you need to stay in your own wheelchair throughout your journey, please write to us at [email protected] at least 3 working days before your journey and tell us your travel plans. We will arrange a wheelchair accessible vehicle. If a replacement bus is used for an unexpected travel disruption and it is not possible for you to board, our on-board staff will make sure that you can continue your onward journey. We will reimburse the costs of all alternative transport arrangements. Please keep the receipts.

It is only allowed to travel with a pet in the train’s C area (above the car doors have a pet sticker). You do not have to buy an additional ticket for your pet.

Pets are not allowed in first class.
